As part of Evasion Travel – the local activity holiday specialists, we’ve got plenty of tips for you. Our staff will be more than happy to point you in the right direction but there’s loads of stuff to do in the area. Scroll down if you’re looking for ideas or places to visit…

Activities

Wine-tasting – this is Rhone Valley heaven; if you like spicy wines made from Syrah/Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre, you’ll be very happy indeed. Try a wine tour in the Rhone Valley with www.RhoneWineTours.com.

Kayaking/canoeing – either in the Cèze itself (10 mins walk from ‘Les Beaux Terroirs’) or in the Ardèche Gorges, 30 mins away by car. There, they do a 2-day descent where you camp out overnight by the river’s edge and enjoy tales of daring escapes around a camp fire… We have camping equipment available for hire.

River-swimming – head down by foot to the River Cèze to swim in clear pools and lol about on a lilo or dinghy. We’ll show you our favorite secret spots!

Biking – either on road bikes to cover the kilometres in the style of Lance Armstrong, or on mountain bikes if you prefer to head off-road into the wild…

Caves tour – the World Heritage site at Aven d’Orgnac is 20 minutes away from St Andre.

Canyoning – jumping sliding and splashing your way down a river in the beautiful Chassezac gorges, approx 1h 30 from us up in the Cevennes

Golf – at the Uzes course, 30 minutes from the house.

Boules – do what every old boy in the south of France does and clank a few boules while you sup a glass of pastis…

Visits

If you like to visit and see new places when on hols, don’t miss out on some of these lovely places…

Uzes – beautiful market town about 30 mins away, founded by the Duche d’Uzes in the 12th century – don’t miss the Saturday morning market.

Haribo Sweets Museum – a must-see for any families with younger kiddies, the famous old Haribo sweets factory has an excellent museum/shop, just south of Uzes.

Avignon – one of France’s great artistic and cultural cities (with its month-long culturefest in August), it used to be home to the popes (see their massive papal palace by the river) and has the half-finished bridge that gave rise to the famous ‘Sur le pont d’Avignon…’ song.

Aven d’Orgnac – some of Europe’s most spectacular caves and easily accessible for family visits – just 20 mins from us.

Gorges de la Cèze – baby brother to the nearby Ardèche Gorges, they’re just up the road from ‘Les Beaux Terroirs’ and offer some lovely walks, pools and peaceful canoeing.

Gorges de l’Ardèche – one of France’s ‘Big 3′ gorges, this spectacular series of canyons offers beautiful spots for river-swimming, some sensational viewpoints and fantastic kayaking and canoeing. There is a two-night canoeing trip with a night under the stars in the national park. Booking and camping gear available through Evasion Travel.

La Chartreuse de Valbonne – a stunning 13th century cloistered monastery, about 20 mins drive.

Goudargues – the ‘Venice of the Gard’ with its canals and cafes/restaurants lining their banks.

La Roque-sur-Ceze & Cascades de Sautadet – medieval cliff-hanging village of La Roque overlooking the beautiful Sautadet waterfalls – another lovely river swimming spot on the Cèze.

Cornillon – clifftop village above St Andre with wonderful views across the whole Cèze valley to the south.

Orange – visit the Roman amphitheatre at the centre of this beautiful ancient town.

Nimes – another Roman arena in Nimes, 1 hr south of St Andre; also get here in June for the Feria – 4 days and nights of festival and party…
