In preparation for the Alps to Ardèche cycle ride, the cyclists, drivers and some extra mates all got together for an energising chili con carne at Jim’s place. The food was great and we talked over a few final bits of cycling preparation but the headline act of the night was Jim’s sponsored leg waxing at the hands of pampering pro, Gabby.

There is a fair bit of debate about why cyclists shave or wax their legs – some say that it’s to prevent hair from getting into cuts or grazes, others say that it’s about streamlining and many think that cyclists just like that kind of thing. No matter what the reason, we were all pretty impressed by Jim’s willingness to get on to the waxing table and were all keen to chuck in a few euros so that we could tear a strip or two off ourselves!

Jim looked pretty relaxed as Gabby prepared the first strips...

...and showed us how it was done as she drew the first of many howls from Jim!...

...we all queued up to have a go but the prize for the most vicious technique goes to 'devil eyes' Jenna who really made her turn worth it!

Everybody gave really generously to the Help for Heroes charity – even those that could not make the evening. Jim even went off to find and old teapot into which he had been chucking loose change (and other junk) for years and donated it to the cause.

The Grand total:

€326.06,

£7.52,
